MDOC Lamar Transfer Records
A state felony sentence can move a person out of Lamar County Jail and into MDOC custody. The disappearance from the county roster is then a transfer, not community release. Start with the Lamar jail transfer entry because it connects the county booking to the receiving authority. Next, use the statewide MDOC record to confirm the state location, unit, entry date, and sentence data.
No state prison was substantiated within Lamar County. MDOC may place a state-sentenced person in an institution, county correctional facility, or another state-designated unit. The public Location and Unit fields identify the tracked placement. They should not be replaced with an invented local prison name or a Lamar street address. The facility page therefore covers the statewide system serving Lamar sentences.
| Record | Question answered | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Lamar jail transfer sheet | How the county booking ended | Does not show later state release |
| MDOC offender detail | State identity, placement, sentence, tentative date | Tentative date is not an actual exit |
| Parolee search | Current parole supervision | Not all community statuses appear |
| Discharge certificate | Formal completion shown by MDOC | Must be obtained as an existing record |
Search MDOC Lamar Offenders
The MDOC inmate search accepts First Name, Last Name, and MDOC ID Number. The ID is the strongest search key. When searching by name, compare date of birth, county of conviction, offense, sentence date, and physical descriptors before selecting a person. A Lamar County conviction supports the connection, but a state record may include sentences from more than one county.
- Open the official MDOC offender search.
- Enter the MDOC number when available, or use first and last name.
- Open the matching detail only after comparing identity facts.
- Read Location and Unit before deciding whether custody continues.
- Compare Tentative Release Date with later status and discharge records.
The detail can show name, MDOC number, race, sex, date of birth, physical descriptors, Entry Date, Location, Unit, Location Change Date, Number of Sentences, Total Length, offense, sentence length, county of conviction, sentence date, and an MDOC photograph. These are state corrections fields. The photograph is not necessarily a Lamar County booking image.
The Lamar County released-inmate search provides the county and court paths for anyone who never entered MDOC. The state search should not be used as a generic fallback for a person who simply posted bond from the county jail.
MDOC Tentative Release Records
The exact public field is Tentative Release Date. It is planning data. MDOC's inmate handbook says the department computes terms and sets parole, earned-release supervision, tentative release or discharge, and maximum dates. Jail-time credit, corrected sentences, added terms, detainers, disciplinary forfeiture, parole action, and release-plan requirements can alter the result.
County jail credit matters after a Lamar conviction. The handbook says eligible time spent in county jail on the cause number tied to the current imprisonment is requested from the county of conviction and used in setting the sentence-begin date. The public detail does not expose the full calculation. For a discrepancy, the inmate may use the case manager route, while a public requester can seek an existing sentence-computation or time sheet.
MDOC's FAQ states that release processing can take roughly 30 to 45 days and requires a discharge certificate before release. That warning is another reason to distinguish an expected date from physical departure. Parole approval can also precede the actual exit while a residence plan or administrative step remains.
MDOC Lamar Release Types
A person can leave an MDOC institution through parole, earned-release supervision, or discharge. Parole is conditional release under a State Parole Board decision or applicable statutory route. Earned-release supervision, often called ERS, is conditional community release under Miss. Code § 47-5-138; the person retains inmate status and MDOC jurisdiction for the unexpired term. Discharge refers to formal completion shown by the controlling state record.
Mississippi's earned-time rule is often reduced to an “85 percent” phrase, but that can mislead. Section 47-5-138 authorizes a 4.5-day allowance for each 30 days served for qualifying people and caps the allowance at 15 percent, subject to exclusions and forfeiture. Eighty-five percent is just the remainder after a maximum allowance. It is not a promise that every state prisoner leaves after exactly that share.
Parole eligibility is a separate calculation under § 47-7-3. Eligibility means a person can be considered; it does not guarantee a grant or an exit date. Offense class, conduct date, exclusions, sentence structure, Board action, and release prerequisites matter. Earned or good time does not reduce the minimum needed for parole eligibility.
- Parole
- Conditional community release linked to the State Parole Board.
- ERS
- Early community placement while inmate status and MDOC control continue.
- Tentative date
- A projected corrections date that may change.
- Discharge
- The formal completion documented by the responsible authority.
Request MDOC Lamar Discharges
MDOC does not accept public-record requests by telephone. Use the MDOC GovQA portal or the written route described on the MDOC public records page. Ask for an identifiable existing discharge certificate, release notice, sentence-computation or time sheet, offender data sheet, photograph, or Parole Board minute or decision. MDOC need not create a new record or calculate a custom answer.
The Public Records Officer is at MDOC, 301 N. Lamar Street, Jackson, MS 39201. The main agency number is 601-359-5600 for navigation. Published policy provides a written response within seven working days. Production, when disclosure applies, is generally no later than fourteen working days after request or payment unless more time is required. Inspection is scheduled on working days from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Published copies cost 15 cents per page. Labor after the first hour may be charged at the hourly rate of the lowest-qualified employee, and actual vendor, technology, mailing, or related costs can apply. Ask for an estimate. Field-officer parole or probation records are excluded by MDOC's policy, so seek the formal Board action or discharge record instead of supervision notes.
MDOC Lamar Community Releases
After an institutional exit, the MDOC parolee search can confirm current parole by first name, last name, MDOC number, city, or county. Choosing Lamar can find people who live or report there, even when the original conviction came from another county. A match supports parole supervision, not final discharge.
Other community categories may not appear in a parole-only search. Probation comes from a court order. Post-release supervision can follow a prison term. ERS continues MDOC jurisdiction. The Lamar Probation & Parole Office can help route a current status question, while the judgment or MDOC data sheet supplies the legal category. When supervision ends, obtain the Board or court discharge record.
The state parole registry is current rather than permanent. Statutory language calls for removal after parole or flat time ends. A later no-match therefore may reflect completed supervision, another category, moved location, or changed data. It does not erase the earlier prison and release history.
Note: A parolee-search match does not establish that the person was ever booked at Lamar County Jail.
MDOC Lamar Transfer Warnings
State custody can intersect with other holds. A person due for MDOC release may face another sentence, county warrant, federal detainer, or immigration process. In that event, the end of the MDOC placement may lead to another agency rather than the community. Request the destination or detainer information that can legally be disclosed and check the receiving system.
BOP, ICE, and USMS records are separate from MDOC. A federal locator cannot verify an ordinary state placement, and the state search cannot settle later federal custody. Preserve the Lamar transfer entry, MDOC status, and receiving record as distinct links in the chain. “Not at MDOC” is not a universal custody clearance.
This is especially important when the county roster and MDOC page change close together. Each database has its own scope and update time. The actual release, transfer, or discharge entry remains the stronger proof of what happened.
MDOC Lamar Record Reconciliation
Dates from the court, county jail, and MDOC can serve different purposes. A Lamar sentencing order states the judicial term. The county jail certifies eligible pre-sentence confinement on the relevant cause number. MDOC uses the sentence and accepted credit to compute state dates. A public tentative date shows the current projection, while a later certificate or status confirms the completed event. Apparent disagreement does not justify choosing whichever date is earliest.
When a calculation seems wrong, request the underlying existing time sheet and compare the cause number, sentence date, jail credit, concurrent or consecutive terms, and later amendments. Do not perform a substitute legal calculation from a public detail page. The inmate's case manager is the operational route for an expected process, and the written records channel is the public route for an existing computation document.
Reconciliation also requires checking whether a community status followed the prison exit. Parole, ERS, probation, and post-release supervision do not mean the same thing. The official order or data sheet should name the status, and the final discharge record should be used when the question is whether state or court control has ended.
